SIGNIFICANT FLOOD EVENTS
(Click Here to View Texas Flood Insurance "Questions & Answers.")
FEMA considers a significant event to be when 1,500 or more
losses are paid from a single event. Here is a list from FEMA of major flood events
in the last 10 years. The actual number of losses is far greater because these
are the claims of those that had flood insurance. Please note that there are a
very large number of flood losses from smaller events that are devastating to
the people with damaged property. These events have been named according to the
most popular name at the time of the disaster.

Many experts say that global warming and other weather
trends will result in an increase in the number of large storms and floods.
Remember that in most cases flood insurance takes effect 30 days from the
purchase date. That means you can?t wait for news of hurricane forming to get
insurance!
